Our first pedal strokes together! How cute!
Austin had experienced some really bad flooding the night before and everything was soaking wet. I don't think we were even 10 miles into our ride when we happened upon our first obstacle:
I was quite sure where Moe was.
A view from one of the many beautiful hills along our ride. In hill country, there are a lot of hills.
And I mean, a lot of hills.
We rolled into Wimberley to eat lunch at Taste Buds - a tasting room where you could try wine or a variety of canned goods. We decided to get some local Raspberry Habanero jelly to have with our PB sandwiches.
Wimberley was much more festive than when I was there just a week before!
Brian really enjoyed the town so he had me take a few pictures of it.
Back on the road again, we had a beautiful sky to look at...not.
The only thing we got to see were more hills.
And more hills.
Even some downhills! We were really trucking through the miles today. Our legs would hurt tomorrow.
Much of the area around Austin evidently had experienced similar flooding the night before, Check out the tree in the middle of the bridge here.
A lot of small Texas town tend to look alike. They all have that classic western saloon look about them. This one had a cool building right in the middle of town square.
With some classic saloons around it.
We set up camp at a state park just past the saloons and got to work making food for ourselves. We had learned to eat a lot while in Austin.
The hardest part about camping in this kind of weather isn't keeping things dry, it's keeping things from getting covered in what Brian and I have referred to as Texas Mud: A nasty, clay light substance that will clog, cover and deface everything you put near it. Shoes? after walking around in Texas mud, you are suddenly wearing platforms.
After making some friends and coking up a yummy pasta dinner, we called it a night. The first day on the road was easy enough.
Total mileage: 65
